WHO estimates suggest that between 200,000 and 700,000 children in India suffer from potentially treatable forms of blindness, such as cataracts or corneal opacities. Project Prakash is a nonprofit organization founded by Dr. Pawan Sinha (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) that provides surgeries to congenitally blind children in India, and observes them during recovery to track the development of sight in the brain. Volunteers from Project Prakash travel to remote villages with limited access to health care to screen blind children and, if they are eligible, enroll them in the program.
RC Delhi Garden City has been supporting Project Prakash since 2013 by sponsoring subsidized surgeries for children at the Dr. Shroff's Charity Hospital in Delhi. Over the years we have helped nearly 100 children have their eyesight restored.
