Given the wealth of experience the membership of Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City has in the fields of education, children’s health and social service, in March 2011, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) allotted the 800-student Nigam Pratibha Girls School, in Srinivaspuri to our club. Our club was given the responsibility for revitalizing the infrastructure and facilities, improve general governance and provide faculty development/training at the school that caters to girls from classes Nursery to Class 5, all hailing from the weaker sections of society.
Working closely with the Principal and teachers of the school, RC Delhi Garden Cty was able to identify and prioritize several areas of improvement. We held multiple meetings with various departments of the MCD and/or Delhi State Government - education, maintenance, horticulture, Jal Board etc. In addition, we were able to raise funds from our network of members and well-wishers to allow us to execute the facility improvement projects at the school.
In 2013-14, RC Delhi Garden City set up a Science Room and carried out a comprehensive renovation of the toilets in collaboration with the Boy Scouts of America Troop 60 at the American Embassy School. 3 toilets were renovated in each of the 4 floors, including a special toilet made for a disabled teacher at the school. In addition, we undertook to provide near-RO quality water with a zero-maintenance, non-electric, large-scale water filtration system that was installed at the MCD School.
In 2012-13, based on the needs of the 800+ girl students at MCD School, RC Delhi Garden City set up a Medical Room and a Arts & Crafts Room in collaboration with the Scrubs Club at the American Embassy School. The Medical Room is equipped for physical exams and to provide basic first aid to the students. The Arts & Crafts room provides opportunities to the girls to exercise their creative talents on a regular basis
The major accomplishments in 2011-12 at the MCD Girls School include:
We collaborated closely with the Boy Scouts Troop 60 based at the American Embassy School to execute two service projects at the school. As part of their community service projects, the boy scouts conceptualized, planned, raised funds & successfully delivered a library & computer room at the school.
The scouts raised funds to buy bookshelves, UPS's computer tables etc. through sale of used books and applying for grants at their school. RC Delhi Garden City matched the funds raised by the scouts for both projects and arranged for a donation of computers by CB Richard Ellis for the computer room.
In 2012-13, we evaluating the feasibility of setting up one or more of a nurse's station, an arts & crafts room, repair some of the toilets, install more notice boards in each class room, and implement a rain water harvesting system at the school.
in 2013, we partnered with the Scrubs Club at the American Embassy School to set up a Medical Room and an Arts and Crafts room for the 800-student school.
