Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City | Activities
The Rotary Club of Delhi Garden City has been associated with the Don Bosco Ashalayam since 2008.
The Ashalayam is a New Delhi based, non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, social and charitable organization working with street children, neglected children, destitute children, working children, slum children, refugees and other marginalized children and youth. Don Bosco Ashalayam has a built in facility to accommodate 150 children at a time. The children are provided with food, shelter, clothing, care, education and vocational training. Today, the Ashalayam reaches out to more than 2,300 neglected children through street contact, residential, vocational and educational (non-formal) programs, thus paving the wayfor them to become responsible citizens of society.
RC Delhi Garden City has adopted 12 children at this institution. Additionally, we conduct regular Dental Hygiene camps at the Ashalayam.
In 2009-10, under the District Simplified Grant scheme, our club provided sports goods to the children at Don Bosco Ashalayam which included table tennis tables/rackets, cricket equipments, footballs, badminton nets/rackets, basketballs, volleyballs, carom boards, chess sets, etc.
In 2010, we arranged for musical instruments for the boys at the Ashalayam to learn music and to play musical instruments.
In 2011-12, our club supported 4 students who were admitted for a 4-year college degree course. In addition we donated a 53-inch TV for use by the residents of the Don Bosco Ashalayam.
In 2012, we arranged for a donation by the US Embassy of bedsheets, blankets, towels and pillows for the residents of the Ashalayam.
